Expert coaching in flying trapeze, aerials, pole and circus arts, surrounded by Costa Rican jungle.
Our Training Philosophy
At Airborne Arts, we believe that the best training happens when you feel fully alive. That is why we built our aerial facility in the mountains of South-West Costa Rica, perched above the Diamante valley with an 1,800-foot waterfall as your backdrop. Here, you do not just learn new skills. You push through comfort zones, discover what your body is capable of and walk away with a deep sense of accomplishment that stays with you long after you leave.
Our training programs span four core disciplines: flying trapeze, aerials, pole and circus arts. Each one is taught by coaches with decades of professional performance and teaching experience, in facilities purpose-built for safety and progression. The Temple of Light, our open-air aerial studio, offers 20 to 25-foot ceilings surrounded by jungle on every side. The flying trapeze rig towers 8 meters above a professional safety net, with a 20-meter swing arc that lets you build real speed and momentum.
Whether you are a complete beginner who has never left the ground or an experienced performer looking for focused coaching in a stunning environment, our programs are designed to meet you where you are. We keep group sizes small so every student gets personal attention. Sessions run two hours and include proper warm-ups, technique instruction, progressive skill building and plenty of time in the air. All training is available as part of a multi-day retreat or as standalone sessions for visitors in the area.
Signature Discipline
Flying trapeze is the heart of what we do at Airborne Arts. Our outdoor rig stands 8 meters tall with a swing arc of more than 20 meters, giving you the space and momentum to experience true flight. Below the bar, a professional-grade safety net and a full apron system mean you can take risks and push your limits without worry. With professional catcher support available during sessions, you can progress to catches and returns as your skills develop.
Each two-hour group session follows a structured progression. First-timers start with ground instruction: body position, timing, the "hep" call and how to kick out and away from the platform. By the end of your first session, most students are executing a knee hang and, when our catcher is in the air with you, making their first catch. It is a moment that changes the way you think about what you are capable of. Returning students and intermediate flyers move into backflips, layout returns, split catches and more advanced swing technique. Advanced flyers work on doubles, twisting dismounts and performance sequences.
Our lead coach Jonathon Conant co-founded Trapeze School New York, one of the most recognized flying trapeze schools in the world. He has spent more than two decades teaching thousands of students of every age and ability level, from children as young as four to adults well into their seventies. His approach is patient, encouraging and technically precise. He understands how to help someone overcome the fear of climbing the ladder for the first time and he knows how to refine the timing of an experienced flyer's double somersault.
Flying trapeze sessions are available for groups or as private lessons and we welcome walk-ins when space allows. Group sessions start from $75 per person. Whether you are visiting Costa Rica on vacation and want to try something extraordinary, or you are a dedicated flyer looking for focused training in one of the most beautiful settings on earth, our trapeze program delivers.
Strength Meets Grace
Aerial silks is one of the most visually stunning circus disciplines and there is no better place to learn it than the Temple of Light at Airborne Arts. Our open-air pavilion was designed specifically for aerial training, with ceilings that reach 20 to 25 feet and rigging points engineered for long fabric drops. The studio is surrounded by jungle on all sides, open to the breeze and the sounds of toucans and howler monkeys. It is a training environment that you will not find anywhere else in the world.
Silks training at Airborne Arts is available as private one-on-one sessions, semi-private lessons for two or three students and group master classes during scheduled retreats. Each session is tailored to your experience level. Beginners learn fundamental climbs, foot locks, hip keys and basic wraps. Intermediate students work on drops, rolls and transitions between poses. Advanced aerialists refine their technique with complex sequences, performance choreography and conditioning exercises designed to build the specific strength that silks demand.
Our aerial arts program, founded by Christine Leakey, a 7-time National Champion aerialist and Athlete of the Decade, is led by our team of seasoned coaches who bring elite competitive experience and a genuine love for teaching. They are known for creating a supportive, challenging environment where students surprise themselves with what they accomplish. Their technical knowledge of fabric mechanics, body positioning and conditioning runs deep.
Sessions start from $75 per person and can be scheduled around your visit. Whether you are looking for a single introductory silks lesson or a week of intensive training as part of an aerial retreat, we will build a program that matches your goals.
Connection Through Movement
Partner acrobatics, sometimes called hand-to-hand or acro, is one of the most rewarding disciplines we teach. It is built on trust, communication and the simple joy of creating something together with another person. At Airborne Arts, our hand to hand acrobatics sessions are open to everyone regardless of experience. You do not need a partner to participate and you do not need to be strong or flexible to start. We teach you the fundamentals from the ground up.
Sessions cover the two core roles: the base, who supports and stabilizes and the flyer, who balances and moves on top. We coach students for either role. You will learn basic mounts, thigh stands, shoulder stands, hand-to-hand grips, counterbalances and dynamic transitions. As your skills develop, the work becomes more fluid and creative. Intermediate and advanced students explore standing acrobatics, tosses, washing machines and choreographed sequences that look as impressive as they feel.
What makes hand to hand acrobatics special is the human element. It builds a kind of trust and body awareness that transfers into every other physical discipline and it creates connections between people that go well beyond the training mat. Couples, friends and complete strangers alike leave our acro sessions smiling, often surprised at what they accomplished together. Partner acrobatics is available as a standalone session or as part of any custom retreat package.
Your Vision, Realized
From concept to curtain call, our coaches work with you to develop, polish, and refine your own aerial or acrobatic act. Whether preparing for a performance, audition, or personal milestone, we help you craft something uniquely yours.
Sessions cover creative direction, music selection, choreography, technical skill integration and performance quality. Our coaches draw on decades of professional stage experience to help you build an act that is not just technically strong but artistically compelling. We work with performers at every level, from first-time creators to seasoned professionals looking to refresh their repertoire.
Act creation is available as standalone sessions or as part of any custom retreat package. Many guests combine act creation with intensive training in flying trapeze, aerials, or hand to hand acrobatics to build new material during their stay.
