The open-air circus training studio with silks rigged above the jungle valley at Airborne Arts Costa Rica

Circus Retreat

Every apparatus, one jungle facility. Flying trapeze, silks, hoop, pole and acro in a week you will never forget.

A Complete Circus Facility in the Jungle

Most people who love circus train one discipline at home because that is what their local studio offers. A circus retreat removes the limits. Airborne Arts was purpose-built as a complete training ground: a full outdoor flying trapeze rig, an open-air aerial studio rigged for silks, hoop, dance trapeze and hammock, professional poles, and space for partner acrobatics and handbalancing. All of it above the Diamante valley, next to an 1,800-foot waterfall, the second tallest in Costa Rica.

The coaching matches the facility. The team is led by Jonathon Conant, co-founder of Trapeze School New York, and the guest-instructor program brings international performers through the property all season, including artists from Cirque du Soleil. Beginners get patient, thorough fundamentals. Experienced students get coaching at a level that is genuinely hard to find in one place.

A typical circus week moves across the apparatus: morning conditioning, a flying trapeze session while the air is cool, silks or hoop after lunch, acro before dinner, open training where your curiosity takes over. Three freshly prepared, mostly organic meals a day keep you fueled, and the property does the rest: the pool over the valley, jungle trails, monkeys in the canopy, and nights full of stars.

Circus people tend to find each other here. Retreat weeks fill with aerialists, flyers, polers and acro partners from around the world, and the communal table does as much for the experience as the rigging does. Many guests book their next week before they leave.

Before You Book

I have never done circus. Can I really come?

Yes, and you would not be the first to arrive with zero experience and leave with a trapeze catch, a silks climb and a new obsession. Every session is coached and scaled. All levels means all levels.

How is a circus retreat different from a single-discipline week?

Single-discipline weeks go deep on one apparatus, often with a guest artist. A general circus week goes wide: you train across the whole facility and follow what lights you up. Both formats share the same property, meals and coaching team.

What does a retreat cost and what is included?

Each retreat page lists its price. Weeks include coaching, lodging and three daily meals, with private room upgrades and add-ons like massage available at registration. Deposits and payment plans are available on most weeks, so you can reserve now and pay over time.

How do I get there?

Fly into San Jose (SJO), Costa Rica. The property sits in the mountains near Dominical, about 3.5 hours from the airport, and we help arrange transfers for every retreat. Full details are on our location page.
